The Bible makes it clear that Jesus came "to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself" and "having been offered once to bear the sins of many" he will come again "to save those who are eagerly waiting for him." (Hebrews 9:26-28). Jesus ransomed himself to save us from sin and death.
The life we live now we live in eager anticipation of Christ's promised return where he will complete our salvation. He promises not to forsake us or abandon us in the meantime. When the Bible talks about redemption it talks about being saved from something to something. Redemption is being saved from sin and into a relationship with God. Through Jesus our sins are forgiven and we are reconciled to God (he restores the relationship). The hope we now have is eternal life no longer plagued by sorrow, suffering, and sin but lived forever in the presence of God who created us and loves us.
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time." (1 Peter 1:3-5)
The gospel (the good news of Christ's life, death, and resurrection) is a demonstration of God's love for us despite our sin; Jesus himself being our redemption. Who doesn't like a good redemption story?
Through the gospel God calls us to himself and unites us together as a family (the church) to love and serve him and each other.
